President Goodluck Jonathan has said the 2015 general elections might have suffered a colossal failure had it not been postponed.
Jonathan according to AIT, said this on march 25, Wednesday while receiving international observers of the March 28 and April 11 elections at the presidential villa.
He noted that Nigeria would have been plunged into crisis if the election had gone ahead.
Apart from internal security and the activities of insurgents, the president said the nation was not comfortable with the level of preparations by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
A representative of the International observer, Amos Sawyer said elections must be free and fair because of the importance of Nigeria to Africa.
Jonathan’s views about the rescheduling of the elections is also shared by some in in PDP who have also described the postponement as a welcome development
and in the best interest of Nigeria.
The postponement according to some PDP stalwarts have helped to reduce tension in the nation and indeed enable the Independent National Electoral Commission to provide Permanent Voters Cards PVCs to the electorates who would have been disenfranchised if the elections had taken place as earlier scheduled.
