Michelle Obama unveils new curly hairstyle as she leads the way at the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner with Katie Couric, Ivanka Trump and Bradley Cooper

She typically wears her dark hair straight and glossy.
But last night, First Lady Michelle Obama unveiled a new, curlier hairstyle for the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner in Washington DC.
Mrs Obama, 51, was spotted sporting tight curls and a glamorous gold dress as she chatted with Hollywood A-listers, politicians and reporters.
AaShe was joined at the glittering event by her husband, President Barack Obama, who later spoke in front of attendees and millions of viewers.

In his speech, Obama lashed out at seven of his Republican enemies - and also made jokes about both Hillary Clinton and his 'best friend' Joe Biden.

Journalist Katie Couric, 58, and her husband, John Molner, 52, were seen arriving at the 101st dinner at around 6pm - both dressed in their finest.

The Yahoo Global News Anchor was donning a pretty floral, floor-length gown, while her spouse of 10 months was sporting a black suit and a bow tie.

They were joined on the red carpet by Ivanka Trump, who was wearing a red fishtail dress, Bradley Cooper and pregnant Glee actress, Naya Rivera.

Modern Family actors Ty Burrell and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and their respective partners, Holly Burrell and Justin Mikita, also made an appearance.

The dinner, dubbed 'nerd prom', was the biggest event on the capital's social calendar - with Obama's speech getting underway at around 10pm.

In the speech, Obama hit out at Republicans John Boehner, Jeb Bush, Dick Cheney, Michele Bachmann, Ted Cruz, Rick Santorum and Mike Huckabee.

Of House Speaker Boehner, he said: 'The presidency has aged me. I look so old, John Boehner has invited [Israeli Prime Minister] Benjamin Netanyahu to speak at my funeral.' His comment was in relation to Boehner's decision to invite Netanyahu to address Congress without first consulting Obama.

Minutes later, Obama remarked that some 'dumb' people consider him 'arrogant, aloof and condescending' - including former Vice President Cheney.

'A few weeks ago, Dick Cheney said I'm the worst president of his lifetime... Which is interesting because i think Dick Cheney is the worst president of my lifetime,' Obama told the 2,600 attendees.

Later in his speech, the President slammed former Florida Governor Bush for having identified himself as Hispanic on a voter registration form in 2009 - something Bush recently admitted to.

'Look, I understand. It's an honest mistake. It reminds me when I identified myself as American back in 1961,' Obama told guests. He then lashed out at presidential hopeful Cruz, 44, noting that he had compared himself to Galileo due to his beliefs on climate change.

'Galileo thought the earth revolved around the sun,' he said. 'But Ted Cruz believes the earth revolves around Ted Cruz.'

During his speech, which caused many guests to laugh (although some appeared offended), the President also joked about former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, who recently announced her 2016 presidential bid and traveled to Iowa in a black 'Scooby' van in a bid to deploy campaign resources.

'I've got to stay focused on my job. It is still a time of austerity,' he said. 'I have one friend - just a few weeks ago she was making millions of dollars a year and she's now living out of a van in Iowa.'

He later commented on the recent scandal over Mrs Clinton's exclusive use of a personal email address while in office, joking that he thought it would have been her private Instagram account that would have caused her problems. 'Photos' from the account were then displayed on-screen.

They included Mrs Clinton scrawling on a drunk person's face and posing with two pet cats.

Cecily Strong from 'Saturday Night Live' was hired to host the annual event, which helps fund scholarships and awards that recognize journalists.

Other stars to have been pictured on the red carpet earlier tonight include actress Gina Rodriguez, actor Haley Joel Osment and his sister Emily, Broadway star Idina Menzel, One Tree Hill actress Sophia Bush, figure skater Tara Lipinski, Gayle King, and former beauty queen Candice Crawford.

They also include journalist Arianna Huffington, actress Jenna Dewan-Tatum (married to Channing Tatum), and Donald Trump and his wife, Melania.

And Fox News employees were spotted posing, before sitting down for dinner with other guests at the Washington Hilton Hotel at around 7.30pm.

Couric was seated next to Supreme Court Judge Antonin Scalia for the meal, which will be followed by the speeches from Strong and Obama.

Last year, Obama targeted several media outlets in his amusing speech, remarking: 'MSNBC is here. They're a little overwhelmed. They've never seen an audience this big before.' Noting that he had traveled to Asia recently, he added: 'The lengths we have to go to to get CNN coverage these days.'

Meanwhile, a video skit played to guests showed health-conscious Mrs Obama sneaking some ice cream in the White House kitchen.
